Sales and Use Tax

Our Services
Sales and Use Tax  services are focused on identifying and resolving tax exposures and overpayments by implementing reliable compliance procedures, staying abreast of state and local sales tax regulations and developing sound tax reduction strategies.  Such services encompass diagnostic reviews to effectively identify areas of tax exposure or potential risk before an audit occurs, professional representation in the event of a sales tax audit, appeal filings, claim for refund filings and reverse audit procedures to identify any prior overpayments.

Diagnostic Review
We will review your business’s internal procedures and policies that are in place as relates to the accounting and reporting of sales and use tax. Through this review, we will be in a position to recommend and implement more  effective and efficient practices to ensure that the taxpayer’s reporting contains  accurate tax determinations and calculations. This compliance review will provide the taxpayer with the necessary knowledge to successfully deal with an audit in a seamless manner, while providing a level of confidence that any potential risks or exposures will be mitigated.

Audit Representation
We will represent the taxpayer with experienced staff, from the initial meeting through the conclusion of the audit. Our services will include the following:

  • Maintain an on-going interaction with the auditor
  • Compile all necessary documents needed for the audit
  • Provide research of tax laws, regulations, annotations and court decisions to support any given  position
  • Review the auditor’s preliminary work-papers to ensure compliance with the law
  • Provide respectful and proactive negotiations throughout the audit

Overpayment
Reviews surrounding overpayments are a necessary service to remain proactive and     ensure that a proper amount of tax is levied by law.  Processes we utilize for refund requests are as follows:

  • Prior years’ sales and use tax reviews which allow us to determine whether any overpayments have been made. In such a case we prepare the necessary documentation to substantiate a claim for  refund
  • In tax audit disputes, the taxpayer has the right to file a timely petition or appeal. This allows the taxpayer to advocate their position in front of a non-biased board to arrive at a conclusion of taxability
